Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram says Virender Sehwag is not qualified for the job as a skipper.  Akram wrote in his column, “The entire hullabaloo around MS Dhoni‘s captaincy is extremely ill-timed. Captain-bashing is a favourite pastime of cricket pundits in the Indian sub-continent and the media just loves it,” . He even added, “There are two names – Sehwag and Virat Kohli — doing the rounds as ‘next’ captains. In my book, none of them qualify for the job,” .He believes Dhoni is the best man to lead India and will remain so in the immediate future.

Carlos Tevez has appealed to the Premiere League against the six week fine imposed on him by Manchester City after he returned home without permission in November. A media consultant working for Tevez confirmed about the appeal and said it should be heard by the Premiere League sometime in February. The Premiere League leaders imposed the punishment on him after finding him guilty of misconduct on December 22. He has lost around 9.0 million ponds in wages and bonuses. He has appealed against this punishment but it was dismissed on January 7.

Sunil Gavaskar feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni  is still the best bet for India’s captaincy and wants the BCCI to wait for some time before zeroing in on the candidate who might take over from him in future. Criticized for his unimpressive captaincy and performance in Test cricket, Dhoni has offered to quit the leadership role in the longer format of the game if the BCCI feels there is a better replacement waiting in the wings.  Gavaskar feels there is nothing to hurry and Dhoni is still the best bet for the job. “Dhoni obviously must have felt deeply the 4-0 loss of India.

Danny Boyle, the maker of Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘, will direct a £29 million opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games in July. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘, will be the part of this celebration. He said, for the inauguration, he was drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s drama, ‘The Tempest‘. The organizing committee anticipates a TV audience of one billion for the opener. There is understandable pressure to get the presentation right. More than 10,000 artistes will participate in Boyle’s three-hour show.The music is being written by Underworld.

The Dirty picture team launched the DVD of the film within two months of the release of the film. The producer of the film Ekta Kapoor said that “Dirty picture is the highest pirated film in the history of Indian cinema“. She also said that if we would have not come up with a DVD now than piracy would make more money than it had already made.

Around 70% of Tihar prisoners are undergoing trial which is much above the national average of 66.4% undertrials in Indian jails said the officials. The Jail authorities are compiling a report of undertrial prisoners who have been granted bail but are unable to furnish sureties. The administration is thinking of taking steps to reduce overcrowding in Asia’s largest prison and also they will compile a weekly report so that if the court allows, the prisoners could be released on relaxation or a personal bond.

Four Nigerians were arrested in New Delhi for allegedly cheating several people by telling them that they have won lakhs of rupees in lotteries. The police said that the gang misused the official logos of International Cricket Council, Mumbai International airport, Airport Authority of India, Ministry of Finance-Department of revenue, Central board of Excise and Customs and United Nations to cheat many people. Police have also recovered 8 laptops, 126 sim cards, 26 mobile phones, 20 envelops of pre-paid sim cards, a walky talky, nine internet data cards, 2 ATM debit cards and other expensive articles. The incident came into light when Police received a complaint from Prem Chand as his son received a fraud message on his mobile phone claiming that he had won huge amount in lottery in UK. His son had already deposited 48,000 in two accounts of SBI as told by the caller over the phone and also asked to submit Rs. 1.85 lakhs for realising the lottery money. Police have arrested 4 people who are accused of cheating people.

If the sources are to be believed Shirish took the first step to make up with SRK after their heated fight. Both husband Shirish Kunder and Farah Khan went to Shah rukh’s residence to sort out the issue. Shirish said sorry to Shahrukh and SRK was in calm mood and he immediately went ahead and hugged Shirish. Farah brother Sajid Khan and friend Sajid Nadiadwala who played the role of peacemakers and brought Shah rukh, Farah And Shirish together. Even Farah said sorry to Shah rukh. Now all we can say is all’s well that ends well.

Congress on Tuesday released its election manifesto for the state of Uttar Pradesh playing Backward and the minority cards. The major areas which the manifesto covered include focus on youth, technology, law & order and health with sub-quota for the backward classes and minorities.

The manifesto was released in the presence of HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Chairman of manifesto committee Salman Khursheed, UPCC President Rita Bahuguna and technology and innovation advisor Sam pitroda.

Main points of the manifesto include:

  •   Broadband internet connectivity to every Panchayat.
  •   A school in every village.
  •   An intermediate college for every 2500 households.
  •    To develop and implement an effective anti-corruption policy.
  •    To bring chief minister under the purview of an independent and efficient lokayukta.
  •    An effective citizen’s charter, a grievance redressal mechanism, and setting up of a state grievance redressal commission.
  •   Timely implementation of the UPA government’s policy of 4.5 per cent quota in central government jobs, PSUs and educational institutions.
  •    To undertake comprehensive police reforms, a women police station in every district, a woman officer in every police station, citizen police community partnership model of policing, security of tenure for the police officers and a rational system for weapon licenses.
  •   Scholarship or free education loan to girl students, students from BPL, minorities, SC/ST/OBCs specially the MBCs if they get admission to a recognized college or university.
  •   Student’s union elections in all the state universities.
  •   A health ombudsman, upgrade all the district hospitals and provide statewide network of ambulances.
  •    To ‘pursue equitable solution of the Babri Masjid dispute saying ‘all parties must abide by the verdict of the courts.’ “If negotiations are to be held, they must be between the parties to the dispute and must have legal sanction,”

General V.K Singh fully supports the comment of Defence Minister A.K Antony in which he said that Indian Army is responsible for the Singh’s age issue. He targeted army saying that it’s the Army’s mistake that it kept two date of birth of the General.

A.K Antony said, “For 36 years, two branches of the same institution maintained two dates of birth and that is why this controversy.” General V.K Singh said, “the defence minister was “right” in noting that the Army was responsible for the controversy over his age issue. “Absolutely, it is within the Army. After 36 years, you suddenly decide to come up with an issue. There is something wrong with it.”

General V.K Singh also said that the steps should be taken by the government to ensure that nothing like this controversy may occur in future.
