On the order made by the Delhi High court, on Friday government gave its nod for prosecution of Facebook, Google and other 19 social networking sites for promoting clashes between classes and increasing prejudice to National integration.

The report given to the metropoliton magistrate stated that, “The sanctioning authority has personally gone through the entire records and material produced before him and after considering and examining the same, he is satisfied that there is sufficient material to proceed against the accused persons under section 153-A, 153-B and 295-A of the IPC,” It also says that the procesution is needed for National harmony and National interest.

In december last year, the court had issued summons to 21 social networking websites for alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, sale of obscene books and sale of obscene objects, etc. On Friday the court said they were asked to remove all such objectionable material but they didn’t do, so now they will face prosecution.

Prosecution involves 5 year of jail term, but the court has issued lighter charges by shortening the jail term to 3 years. For now the court has listed the matter for further hearing on March 13.
