Roger Federer came through a tough test against big-serving giant Ivo Karlovic to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open while Rafael Nadal lost just six games as he chases his second title Down Under.

Federer made no mistake, taking his first opportunity to clinch the 53-minute opener. “Obviously I knew going in it was going to be tough,” said Federer, when asked about the challenge of facing the 6ft 10ins Karlovic, who holds the record for the fastest serve in the game.

Nadal will now face either American 16th seed John Isner or Spain’s 18th seed Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16 on Sunday.

“I have a good feeling, even though the first set was 6-2 it was a really tough one. Lacko is a young player and I wish him all the best for the rest of the season,” Nadal said.
