Government yesterday ruled out any type of compromise with Army Chief General V.K Singh over his age issue. The government also said and made it clear that there wasn’t any move to appoint him as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), a post which is at conceptual stage and is proposed to be above the heads of the 3 Defence services.

The reports say that, discussions were being held to work out a formula to molify General Singh and avert hearing of his petition by the Supreme Court reports also suggested that appointing General Singh as the first Chief of Defence Staff was one of the options being discussed with him.

On Monday General V.K Singh filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging government’s rejection of his claim on his birth date. The date of birth was said by him is 10th May 1951 but the Defence ministry take it as 10th May 1950, as per this he has to retire in May 2012
