An unforgettable day in the politics of Maldives was witnessed by the locals and the world as well. President Mohamed Nasheed resigned today after a long protest in the country by the people over his decision to arrest a senior juge.

During anoouncing  about his resignationNasheed on television said that, “better for the country in the current situation if I stood down.” He also said that, “ I doesn’t want to run the country wthe a iron fiist… I am resigning..”

Mohamed Nasheed’s close aides and supporters said that this act of President was a result of huge protests by the people and the officials too, though Nasheed declined any such allegations.

The Vice-President Mohamed Waheed was appointed as the President within few hours of resignation by Nasheed. In the official website Waheed mentioned that Nahseed’s decision to step down was the direct resut of public pressure and anti-government protests.
